The Befriending Scheme offers one-to-one support and companionship for the elderly in Oundle and the surrounding villages. It is organised by Volunteer Action and the Oundle Churches.
The volunteers offer a listening ear and company for an agreed length of time.
So if you are on your own and would like companionship and someone to talk to, this could be the scheme for you. Or maybe you're a carer or simply not able to get out of the house very much.
All volunteers give their service freely and will have participated in a basic course in visiting and listening skills, and have undergone a Criminal Records Bureau check.
You can be introduced to a Befriender who will be able to visit you in your own home over a period to be agreed by you.
Volunteer Action reserves the right to refuse anyone the service.
If you would like to be contacted about having a visitor please phone Volunteer Action on 01832 275433 and ask for the Befriending Co-ordinator. Or you can email volunteeraction@email@example.com. Alternatively you can ring your local church contact on 01832 770010.
You may be able to help by joining our Community Car service as a Volunteer Driver or by helping in our office even if it only one morning a week, so if you have administrative skills and would like to help your community just give Volunteer Action a call.
You can also make a regular donation by becoming a 'Friend of Volunteer Action'. Please ring Volunteer Action.
The Befriending scheme is looking for reliable volunteers to help with the provision of a befriending service in Oundle and surrounding villages.
No physical work is involved, just a listening ear and companionship.
The scheme is mainly aimed at people over 60 years of age who are housebound, isolated, or have a short term need.
If you wish to volunteer your services, or if you require any further information, please ring or e-mail Volunteer Action.
